ABSTRACT

A research has been done on the spread of E. Coli bacteria at locations around the mass cow’s barn in Jetis Hamlet, Pendowoharjo, Sleman. The aims of this research is to determine the spread of E. coli bacteria originating from livestock manure pile in the stables.
This study uses isotopes of deuterium, oxygen-18 and tritium to predict the genesis of groundwater and calculate the groundwater flow velocity. Content analysis of bacteria in groundwater is tested by the method of the Most Probable Number, while the analysis of the spread of E. Coli bacteria is done by comparing the speed of groundwater and the lifetime of E. Coli bacteria.
From the results of content analysis of deuterium and oxygen-18, it is found that Umbul Jogopaten spring, Wells Livestock Pendowoharjo, and Umbul Permai spring are in a same groundwater of genesis. And the results of tritium concentration analysis shows that the velocity of the groundwater toward the Umbul Jogopaten to Pendowoharjo livestock well is 0.02517 m/day. The test results of analysis showed that E. Coli bacteria in Umbul Jogopaten, Pendowoharjo Livestock well, and citizen well shows that E. Coli Bacteria is found to be 4, 9, 4 MPN/100 ml. The results showed that there was still detectable E. Coli Bacteria in the location of the Well of Citizens. The presence of E. Coli bacteria is derived from sources other pollutants.
